Letting Go of Fear

Our reality includes all our programs, memories, beliefs, attachments, emotions, and expectations. These have been gathered through many years. We have been blind and deaf for eons of time. We are completely drugged, looking for love, approval and appreciation in the wrong places and from the wrong people. We search for success, power and material things, thinking that they will "make" us happy. We tend to try to change people because we think if they change, we'll be happy. We constantly give our power away by thinking that our happiness depends on other people and external circumstances.

Stop the world, I want to get off! Don't you sometimes feel like screaming that? Well, we are now in the middle of the song, so we need to dance until it comes to an end. We can change the dance and how it ends if we just let go. It is imperative to wake up and see things as they really are. We must stop letting our false reality control us. I know it is terrifying to let go of everything we thought was real. Our fear is inevitable, when we let go of the known and embrace the unknown.

How Long Can You Wait?

by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

Luis A. Atilano, born on May 10, 1985, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, knows what it's like to wait. And wait. And wait. Who is Luis Atilano? He is a pitcher for the Washington Nationals - a very new pitcher, having pitched in only two major league games.

Before joining the club this season, Atilano pitched for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the A-Level Carolina League, where he accrued a won-loss record of 6-7 and an ERA (earned run average) of 4.50 in 18 starts and 1 relief appearance. Translation: he was not pitching well. In fact, he pitched only two complete games for Myrtle Beach before an elbow injury in early August ended his season. How long was Atilano in the minors? Eight years. Eight... long... years.

It's reasonable to say that Atilano didn't have much of a chance to make the majors. After all, every pitch he threw in the minors was one more tork-applying-pitch on an arm that was getting older, not younger. But there he was on the mound for the Washington Nationals on April 23, 2010, taking the ball in hand and hurling it the 60 feet, 6 inches to home plate... allowing just one run on five hits in a 5-1 Nationals victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 23, 2010. Was it worth the wait? Come on.

Will it be worth the wait for you, too, when you finally arrive? Come on. You know it will.

P.S. Wednesday, April 28, he took the mound again against the Chicago Cubs. He is now 2-0.

Getting Your Family Involved In Your Home Business

by Craig Binkley

Do you own your own home business? Is your family involved with your daily business? Yeah, I know at times it seems easier to just do everything yourself. It is an easy trap to get into. Why take the time to explain the job, show them how it should be done, make sure it is done properly, and then possibly have to redo the project if it is not done to your liking? Yes, we have all been through this at some point. The question is: what are you going to do about it?

You basically have two options: Do everything yourself or invest the time to get your family involved. For me, the second one is the ONLY option.

First off, if you are doing everything yourself, you are probably spending a lot more time with your business than with your family. Secondly, you are depriving your spouse and children of the joy of owning a home business.

Why not take some of the burden off of yourself by allowing your family to help you in your daily tasks. Here are a few ideas that you can implement to start getting your family involved.

SPOUSE: If your spouse is not involved with you in your home business you are missing a great opportunity to spend some much needed time with him/her. I know, this may not be everyone’s idea of quality time with your beloved, but is it not better than the alternate – you doing your thing and he/she doing theirs? My wife is my biggest supporter. She is the person I bounce ideas off of. She is also my proofreader. If your spouse is not in tune with what you are doing, do what you can to peak their interest and get them involved today.

YOUNG CHILDREN: Obviously there is not much for a toddler to do, but as they grow older you can give them small jobs to start out (dumping your trash can, sharpening your pencils, etc.) and continuing to give them more challenging jobs as they become more mature. No matter what the job, kids feel a sense of pride in knowing they are “pitching in”.

TEENAGERS: This is the group you need to get! There are so many things that a teen can get involved with (sports, music, friends, drugs). Wouldn’t it be nice if what they are involved with were your business? If you have been giving them jobs as younger children then most likely they are already involved. If you are just getting started with your business and/or getting to those teens, try giving them some things that they might not expect that you would delegate to them (typing a letter or making a call to a supplier to place an order). Let them see that you have the confidence in them and they will respond likewise.

Our teen daughter makes her own jewelry so we decided to make it a part of our business with a section of our website dedicated to her creations only. After seeing this, our oldest son decided he wanted something to do, so he started making wood-burned signs. We added a page for him also. They both are very proud of the fact that the stuff they are making is actually on the web. It has gotten them very interested in what we do as a family business and allows us to get them even more involved as time goes by.

In conclusion, do whatever you can to get your family involved. Not only will it alleviate some of your workload, it can truly draw you family closer together.

Risk the NO in order to receive the YES

In a business class a certain person told us the story of how he became a very successful real estate agent.

He was very young, and on his first day on the job his boss had asked him, "Do you want to sell houses?" Of course, he immediately answered that he did. The boss took him to a neighborhood and told him, "This is where I am going to leave you. I will pick you up in four hours. Go and knock door to door and ask the people if they want to sell their homes."

He left him a paper with a grid with one hundred boxes and told him that every time someone said no, he should make an X in one of the boxes. "Go and look for your first hundred NOs."

The young man could not believe it, but there was no way out of the situation.

As it turned out many did say NO, but to his surprise, many said YES - that they had just been thinking about it and they wanted to get more information. In that moment the young man realized that with every person who said NO, he got closer to the possibility of a YES.

We all have a big fear of NO, a great fear of rejection. But if we don't risk receiving a NO, we will never receive the YES.

The capacity to overcome fear is what differentiates the people that get a lot out of life from those that hardly get anything at all; the people that are successful and excel from those that stay stuck.

Don't Fear Your Home Business Competition

Article written by Jim Kelly,webmaster
You have taken a great deal of time and put forth effort seeking out a home business opportunity that matches your individual desires, skills and goals. You have registered with a legitimate and supportive program and you have taken the time to create a detailed written business plan for yourself. You have researched promotional methods and strategies and perhaps you have even begun to create your own web site. You feel primed to move forward with the initial steps you have so carefully structured.

One potentially serious pitfall needs to be avoided at all costs. Some new home business entrepreneurs develop a mindset that they “want it all” and perceive all others promoting the same or similar products, services, and opportunities as the “enemy”, and they begin to develop a fiercely protective attitude towards their new business. Fear of your competition will not steer you toward your goal of independence; rather it will propel you towards isolation.

I would invite you to take a daring step outside of yourself and reach out directly to those you might perceive as “the competition”. In doing so you are highly likely to encounter numerous friendly, helpful entrepreneurs just like yourself, some of whom have made quite a success of themselves with their home business.

There are many sources for seeking out and interacting with similar minded entrepreneurs. The program you have enrolled in no doubt has numerous forums and if not, do a web search for home business forums and make a habit of visiting them and begin to make yourself known. Post your questions, concerns, and ideas in the forums. You will absolutely receive responses from other enthusiastic home business owners. Get to know them individually and exchange email addresses. Strike up friendships and share your goals, methods, and hopes. If you have a web site, swap links.

There is no reason to protect yourself from or avoid others in your field. Those who develop their business with a stance of protectionism and isolationism are likely to remain in isolation and indeed may fail as a direct result. A network of friends and mentors within your field is a tool that you will come to find invaluable as your network will aid you in sharpening your goals, direction, and strategies. The Internet is a vast place and there is ample business for all who are dedicated and apply a well-laid out strategy. Seek out and befriend those in your field. Don’t make the mistake of shunning them. You won’t be sorry!
